I am in no way affiliated with Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and their respective families. I do not know them personally, and I do not know any of their friends, relatives or casual acquaintances.
I am solely responsible for the contents of this text, which expresses my personal opinions (which may or may not be accurate). Oh, and I’m neither clairvoyant nor psychic.
The article has been written for fun: no harm intended. People who feel that this is an invasion of Daniel’s and Rupert’s privacy should not read this text. People who think that astrology equals loads of tosh shouldn’t read it either.
The article is not recommended to readers aged 15 and younger.
Due to its length, the article has been split in three parts. This is PART ONE.
Lots of Harry Potter fans who have marvelled at Daniel Radcliffe‘s and Rupert Grint‘s on-screen chemistry, must have wondered: are they as good friends in private life as Harry Potter and Ron Weasley are in the movies? Well, an astrological analysis might help us answer this question. Unfortunately, Rupert’s and Dan’s exact times of birth are unknown, thus I cannot calculate their exact natal charts. However, even the analysis based solely on their dates of birth might give us interesting and accurate information, and a deeper insight into their individual personalities and mutual compatibility.
First, let’s take a look at the boys’ individual charts, and then we’ll compare them.
Daniel Radcliffe' Natal Chart -- DOB: 23 July 1989, time unknown; Equal Houses System
Daniel Radcliffe has no less than four planets in Leo – apart from his Sun, he also has Mercury, Venus and Mars in this sign. Mercury is in conjunction with his Sun, while Venus is in conjunction with Mars. Dan’s signature sign (the sum of all elements and modalities) is also Leo, and his Sun is positioned on the zero degree of Leo. All these positions greatly emphasise all positive and negative qualities of this Zodiac sign. Daniel is a super-Leo, someone who embodies pretty much all virtues and faults associated with Leo.
Daniel also has a triple conjunction (aka stellium) of three “heavyweights” (Saturn, Uranus and Neptune) in Capricorn. Therefore, Capricorn is also very prominent in his chart, and the powerful impact of Saturn in its “home” sign of Capricorn greatly influences Dan’s character and destiny. Indeed, Sun in Leo and Saturn in Capricorn are the strongest planets in his chart.
Dan’s Sun and Mercury are in the aspect of quincunx (150 degrees) with the stellium in Capricorn. Quincunxes always signify adjustments – for better or worse, willy-nilly – and in this case they indicate all the adjustments Dan had to make in his life since he became a movie star. However, the preponderance of Fixed modalities in Dan’s chart (5 planets are in fixed signs) indicates that, despite all those quincunxes, Dan is actually a person who finds it difficult to adjust to anything and achieve compromise. This is a constant source of tension in his life, and his independent and self-sufficient Leo nature is constantly challenged by all the expectations that his work (and people associated with it) place upon him.
It is interesting to observe that all three of them – Dan, Emma and Rupert – have the elements of Fire and Earth prominent in their charts. However, while in Rupert’s case Earth is the dominant element, and Fire the secondary, Dan and Emma are both under the impact of Fire, with Earth being their secondary element. All three of them share a conflict between the Fiery (passionate, energetic, creative, extroverted) and the Earthly (grounded, cautious, reserved, practical) sides of their characters. All three of them lack the elements of Air and Water, which means that they are inclined to let emotions rule actions, and they have difficulty in truly understanding others and expressing their deepest emotions.
Dan’s natal planets form the configuration of “basket”: nine planets occupy one half of the sky, while a single planet opposes them. This planet (in his case, the Moon in Pisces) is the “handle” of the “basket”: this planet serves as an outlet for all the conflicting energies represented by the other nine planets.
Physically, Daniel looks like a typical Leo. Human Leos often resemble their animal namesakes! A typical human Leo has a big head attached to a relatively small body; they are usually short in stature, with short limbs, but they compensate for the lack of inches by having a loud voice and big attitude! They all talk a lot, laugh a lot, and roar occasionally! Leos are usually blessed with big, thick, often wavy or curly hair; they also have thick eyebrows, and lots of facial and body hair; and, last but not least, big shiny eyes. Think of other Leo celebrities such as Michael J Fox, Martin Sheen, Madonna, Sean Penn, Dustin Hoffman, Robert DeNiro and many others – all of them fit this description perfectly. Of course, from time to time you will meet a very tall and bald Leo, but these are exceptions, and one may assume that those people have lots of planets in other signs, or a conflicting Ascendant. Also, from time to time you will meet a seemingly very shy, timid and quiet Leo person – but just try to insult them or contradict their beliefs, and you’ll see that they are everything but “timid”! Never disturb a sleeping Lion!
I should note that Dan’s trademark character Harry Potter is also a Leo (so is JK Rowling herself, she “shares” her birthday with Harry – 31st July!) Dan was obviously chosen to play Harry because he looked the part! Also, note that JKR has made the symbol of Gryffindor – a lion, so she probably takes great pride in her zodiac sign.
Sun in Leo marks one who has a strong will and great ambition. Leo people are generally more concerned with the “big picture” than with the numerous small details in life. As such, they tend to enjoy being in authority and using whatever means are available to achieve their desires. As a typical Leo, Dan enjoys being the centre of attention and wants others to think well of him. His creative accomplishments put him in the spotlight. He has a great zest for life; he is self-assured, willful and proud, and not easily swayed by others’ opinions. He sees no problem in expressing himself vociferously in ANY situation, occasionally causing problems since his opinion is not always asked for!
Other people see Dan as a confident and dominant (domineering) character, someone who is very proud of himself, very dignified and a bit vain, someone who enjoys the success and privilege. He prefers rich and elegant surroundings and possessions. He is a show-off, and his natural assertiveness drives him to impress others with his ideas and opinions. However, his intimate relationships may suffer from a difficulty to compromise. If he wants to have good, mature relationships, he should try to develop better listening habits around others. In short, Dan is a charismatic person who has a strong ambition and desire to succeed; he is confident and energetic when dealing with others and he truly believes that nothing is impossible. He is a theatrical person who lives his life on a grand scale, and whose energy and joie de vivre are truly captivating.
With Mercury in Leo, Dan displays a great ability to focus his concentration and articulate thoughts. He displays a dramatic flair when speaking and likes to command the attention of all around him, occasionally being loud or verbose. Dan has a dynamic intellect; he enjoys proving his point and selling his ideas to others, though he sometimes gets carried away and drives the point into the ground. Furthermore, with his Mercury square Pluto, Dan has a penetrating mind that attempts to sway others; thus he has the propensity for bluntness. He must combat his secretive nature and strong pride and will which may be misapplied. He shows a great deal of self-confidence when it comes to tackling problems, but he is also prone to patronise others, and he can be a (verbal) bully. He values no opinion other than his own, and despite his keen mind, he will often stubbornly reject even constructive advice. He is always convinced that his own ideas are correct and he enjoys persuading others that they are; he gets very defensive when his beliefs and principles are challenged. He appreciates truth and honesty, but only if they support his own point of view! He also loves being asked for advice and counsel.
Sun conjunct Mercury in Leo links the mind and ego. Dan is eloquent and quick witted, but also prone to get things done with sheer willpower. He hates it when people try to contradict him, and has difficulty in being objective. This conjunction confers a very sharp mind, great sense of humour, great mental energy, and a fluency in speech. Being an only child, and a child-star since his pre-teen days, Dan is used to being the centre of attention, and he is a natural born charmer/entertainer/showman.
Sun trine Moon gives Dan good health and makes him a well adjusted and self confident young man. He is fond of children and attractive to the opposite sex. This is the aspect of popularity, and it gives him fans of all ages. He is a friendly bloke, very adept socially, and he interacts well with others. Dan is optimistic and confident, and this aspect indicates that he comes from a stable and loving home.
Dan’s Moon is in Pisces, a sign completely different from Leo, which shows that his parents (Sun and Moon) were a case of “opposites attract”. Leo/Pisces is a very dramatic combination: these people LOVE drama, in all segments of their lives! Dan is a true drama queen, on and off screen. He has strong feelings and is extremely sensitive. He hates being criticised and tends to react emotionally to every situation he comes across. He tends to absorb the energy of others, so he should avoid negative people. He has a rich, creative and lively imagination; he is very intuitive, and may be quite psychic. The signs of Leo and Pisces united are often present in the horoscopes of actors: in Dan’s case, as we know, it was his mother (Moon) who worked in the movie industry (Pisces) but behind-the-scenes (Pisces) and she pushed him into acting (Leo, Pisces). As I’ve mentioned, Moon provides outlet in Dan’s chart: one may conclude that Dan’s mother (Moon) is the most important person in his life, and I can safely say that acting has a therapeutic effect on Dan’s nervous system.
Since the sign of Leo is so prominent in his chart, it is safe to assume that Dan won’t try to develop the feminine, caring side of his personality, indicated by this Moon in Pisces; instead, he will seek these qualities in his partners. He will be attracted to shy, reserved partners, who display a great deal of sensitivity when interacting with others. Dan’s spouse might also be someone from the movie industry. He is attracted to people who are gracious to both friends and strangers, and who display an element of impressionability. Leo people are usually attracted to people who are somehow “inferior” to them, because they want their partner/spouse to admire and worship them!
With his Moon square Jupiter, Dan is apt to indulge in food, television and such. He is friendly, but suffers from a conflict between false pride and his true feelings. The aspect of Mercury trine Moon gives Dan an excellent memory, lots of common sense and great stores of wisdom (Rupert has this aspect too). Both boys were destined to thrive in a business predicated on communication; they tend to be perceptive and clever in their affairs; they have alert minds and think fast on their feet. However, with his Mercury in Leo/Moon in Pisces Dan is a natural communicator, conversationalist, show-off; while Rupert with his Mercury in Virgo/Moon in Capricorn combination is a lot more reserved in his speech, and prefers to apply his verbal talents more constructively, i.e. at work!
While Sun trine Moon promises that Dan will have a successful partnership/marriage, this is somewhat obscured by his aspect of Moon square Uranus. This aspect makes him an imaginative and curious person, yet he is also quite eccentric and suffers from extreme moodiness. He craves excitement and he is prone to sacrifice a stable family life just for the sake of having fun. Moon, Jupiter and Uranus form the configuration of T-square, so Dan is going to ruin lots of his professional, emotional and friendly relationships due to his bigotry, selfishness, eccentricity and unpredictability.
As for Dan’s emotional life, as I’ve mentioned, he has Venus conjunct Mars in Leo. This configuration indicates a passionate person whose life is dominated by an extremely strong sexual drive. Venus in Leo makes him a natural romantic who enjoys the excitement and challenge of meeting new people. The spotlight is his favourite place to show off his witty love of life in both social and romantic climates. Dan is also a bit vain, and he likes to surround himself with people who make him look good. He is friendly and outgoing, naturally compassionate to all he meets, while remaining loyal to his loved ones and family. Despite his adventurous nature, Leo is a fixed (i.e. stable) sign, which means that Dan’s affections, which are usually demonstrative, frank and open, do stay fixed for a long time. He is sunny and outgoing, he likes to please others; he has a knack of getting the things he wants out of life. He throws himself headlessly into any challenge, be it professional or emotional.
Dan takes friendships quite seriously and remains loyal and true to those to whom he is attached. But for him, love is mixed with pride and respect. Relationships are over when he loses respect for his partner – or when he feels that his partner has lost respect for him. He loves to surround himself with the powerful, important and influential people, and thus may appear arrogant.
Venus conjunct Mars confers great personal magnetism and sex appeal. Dan is extremely passionate and romantic, often torn between lust and love. His entire life is full of drama, and this especially applies to his emotional life! Thus: passionate love affairs, public break-ups, drama drama drama! Dan may also have exhibitionistic and voyeuristic tendencies; in any case, his strong libido pervades every aspect of his life. As we all know, Dan had no hesitations/reservations about taking his kit off for Equus – enough said!
Mars in Leo makes Dan extremely self-willed, proud, passionate, possessive, jealous, domineering. Despite his tiny physique, he feels ready to “conquer the world”. His co-stars have described him as a “hyper” person, and that’s indeed true: he is extremely energetic, bold and courageous, always at the ready to partake in some exciting activity, including some downright dangerous thrill-seeking stunts. He loves to be the one to initiate significant actions, and loves it when people expect a lot of him. However, when his dignity or pride is threatened, he tends to become sarcastic, arrogant and domineering. He tends to take any challenge or resistance he meets as a personal affront. He is very stubborn about his right to live his life according to your his principles: the songs that describe Dan best are “My Way” and “Born To Be Wild”!
Venus sextile Jupiter makes Daniel an optimistic, cheerful and gregarious lad. People with this aspect attract good emotional fortune, so Dan will never experience financial hardship, and all his business endeavours will be successful. Jupiter in Gemini makes Dan an avid student, with wide-ranging interests. Venus trine Uranus brings a lot of love, good fortune and excitement into his life. Dan has an unique personal style, strong personal magnetism and an effervescent personality, thus he easily attracts romances.
The aspects of Sun quincunx Uranus, Venus trine Uranus and Moon square Uranus make Dan very curious and adventurous; coupled with his ardent sexual passion, as indicated by Venus conjunct Mars, he is someone who cannot stand being alone, and seeks love everywhere. He may be quite indiscriminative when it comes to choosing a partner.
The stellium in Capricorn, especially with Saturn included, makes Dan a somewhat precocious kid, who had to grow before his time and who is used to hanging out with older people. Indeed, he was never a proper child: he didn’t have many friends his age, he didn’t have siblings, he grew up among adults, started working from a very early age, became a movie star at the age of 10, and had to endorse all responsibilities associated with this. We see a powerful father figure, a father who expected too much of his child and made sure his demands were met and obeyed. The aspect of quincunx between Sun and Saturn indicates that Dan found it hard to adjust to a life of a person who is constantly scrutinised and needs supervision/protection 24/7. Dan is the type of person who wants to do things his own way and is quite unhappy by the control that he feels his parents, agents, movie producers and publicists have over his life.
Saturn in Capricorn has turned our sunny and irreverent Dan into a serious-minded kid, who has the ability to take on responsibilities which come with being Harry Potter. Even more so, Dan actually enjoys them! He is practical and thrifty, a good organiser, and he enjoys the working environment which enables him to take a clearly defined project through to its logical conclusion. He is an achiever who prides himself on his ability to focus his attention on some worthy goal and then attain it. With three planets in Capricorn and Pluto in Scorpio, Dan is willing to tackle projects that are considered mysterious, remote or taboo.
Will he have an acting career after his Potter days? It is difficult to say without knowing his exact Ascendant and MidHeaven. As a Leo, he greatly enjoys acting, drama, being in the spotlight, and the popularity and publicity that comes with it. However, with so many planets in the inflexible signs of Leo and Capricorn, he finds it hard to truly identify with the characters he is supposed to embody. He is an ego-driven person, and may find it difficult to turn himself into someone else. Thus he will be the best in the roles which require of him to play himself! He will probably try to pursue a career on stage, because as a true Leo he loves the applause and the interaction with his audience. On the other hand, Leo people also enjoy telling others what to do, i.e. directing, so he will probably turn to directing movies and theatre plays at some point. But I do not think he will ever give up on acting completely. In any case, he will never cease being a celebrity..
