Rupert Grint's Natal Chart: DOB 24 August 1988, time unknown; Equal Houses System

Rupert Grint has four planets in the element of Earth (Sun and Mercury in Virgo, Moon and Neptune in Capricorn) and three planets in Fire (Mars in Aries, Saturn and Uranus in Sagittarius). Therefore, Earth is his dominant element, but Fire is also quite prominent. Most people who have met Rupert describe him as very “down-to-Earth”, and his chart confirms this claim. The preponderance of Earth elements bestows considerable common sense and practicality, and the presence of Fire indicates a blending of realism and compromise, making him diplomatic, and yet assertive.

Fire stands for creative energy, and Rupert has plenty of it, but the dominance of Earth makes him quite realistic about his potentials, and helps him direct his energy in a constructive and goal oriented direction. Down to Earth our Rupert is, but also: realistic, practical, unsentimental and quite self-contained. He likes all things natural, loves animals and fresh air, likes to be outdoors and play sports. He is very much a physically aware person, very manly but also quite sensuous, and prone to all the pleasures of life.

The element of Earth also makes him outwardly quiet and unassuming. He is very cautious, when it comes to letting new people into his life, and he is not the one to open up at first acquaintance. But within his circle of close friends, he is everything but quiet, and definitely not as “inarticulate” as he might appear to strangers! Rupert’s calm, quiet and “shy” demeanour actually hides a creative, contradictory and restless nature. Still water runs deep – this is so Rupert! He does not like people who are too showy, too loud, too aggressive, too pushy or too intellectual. He prefers common sense, fair play and mutual respect. Empty talk leaves him cold.

With four Cardinal planets (Moon, Venus, Mars and Neptune), Rupert is active: he likes to be in charge, he accepts responsibilities easily, and he’s good at initiating new projects. With lots of Mutable planets (Sun, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus), he is disposed to going out of the way to accommodate others; he is pleasant and fun, and tends to adapt easily to novel circumstances. Since Rupert has few Fixed modalities, he rarely ‘stays put’ or fixes attentions or affections on any one thing for a long time. The good side of this is that he can do many things at once. The bad side is that Rupert’s memory, patience and concentration aren’t exemplary; being so many-sided, he finds it difficult to focus, concentrate and settle into one place. He tends to act first and think later, to initiate many things and then leave them unfinished, and he will have difficulty in achieving a long-term stability in all domains of his life.

His planets form the pattern of Star (which means that there is no major concentration of planets in a single sign or quality), and his Signature sign (i.e. the sum of all elements and modalities) is Virgo. Virgo is a negative and mutable sign, and this fluid, unsettled quality of Rupert is obvious. Being a natural born actor, Rupert is able to play most diverse roles, try on different identities, transform himself completely, and change as required! His life will be very exciting, dynamic, and full of sudden changes of scenery (both on and off set!).

Rupert likes to make his own decisions, take charge and be in the driver’s seat. He rarely lacks exciting ideas, and generally prefers to mind his own business… alone! He is tolerant, but hates when people tell him what to do. He does not like being bossed around or scrutinised. But he rarely fights for his right fiercely… instead, he nods in agreement – and then does things his own way! Since he can be very charming and persuasive, in most cases he will get away with this kind of attitude.

The fact that his Sun is on the 1st degree of Virgo adds a further Fire/Cardinal facet to his chart, and makes him way more ambitious, competitive, courageous, fun loving and headstrong than an average Virgo. This type of horoscope usually indicates a first-born child, especially a male first-born, and Rupert is no exception. He has a strong ambition and desire to succeed, and realises a lot is expected from him. He expects a lot from himself too, and is used to shouldering the heavy burden of responsibilities without complaining.

Therefore, despite his “sleepy” and “laid-back” appearance, Rupert is actually quite energetic, active, alert and sharp. His senses are excellently developed, especially his sight, smell and touch. He has a very good eye for detail, which contributes to his ability to impersonate others easily. He exhibits a lot of initiative, and can be infectiously enthusiastic and creative. He is rather discrete and private, likes to mind his own business and hates gossip. He does not like people confiding in him either. He is also quite nervous, and tends to get irritated easily. He does not like to talk about his problems; instead he bottles up everything inside, and then lets it explode from time to time. He rarely gets really angry, but when he does, he goes barking mad! Most Virgoans tend to deal with problems by burying themselves into work. However, Rupert loves to indulge into daydreaming and become a bit escapist.

The fact that he was put into work at the age of 11 made him grow up early, become aware of his flaws and start working on correcting them. When he started to work as an actor, he also became more responsible and professional, and handled all the pressure with admirable maturity. As he grows older, he will become increasingly hard working, ambitious and career-obsessed.

The three planets that form a trine aspect with his Sun (Saturn, Uranus and Neptune) are retrograde. This, and the fact that his Moon and Neptune are in Capricorn, indicates that Rupert is an old soul, a soul that had been through many reincarnations and accumulated many experiences. Of course, you may not believe in reincarnation, but if you do, then imagine Rupert as an old soul trapped in the body of a cunning, mischievous boy! His destiny in this life is to put his artistic talent in the service of bringing joy to other people. He became aware of his “mission” at a very early age, and as time goes on, he will become increasingly immersed in his role.

Moon conjunct Neptune sextile Pluto indicates a person who is a master of his own mind and body, and who can even change the course of events solely on the basis of his mind power. No wonder that Rupert’s very first movie role was that of a wizard – a wizard indeed, and he won the role of Ron because he wanted it so badly that his (subconscious) mind basically programmed the course of events! It was his destiny to become an actor, and to trade his “normal” identity for his movie star persona. As he grows older, he will try to build a wall around him, to prevent the intruders from invading his most intimate space, and he will try to keep his private life as private as possible.

Both Rupert’s Sun and Moon are in Earth signs, which explains why people think of him as someone down-to-Earth. People with the Sun in Virgo/Moon in Capricorn combination tend to be: introverted, self-conscious, melancholic, quiet, hard working, realistic, practical, private, ambitious; stoic, humble, cautious, unassuming, aloof and materialistic.

Sun in Virgo makes Rupert someone who pays meticulous attention to every detail in life, although most people around him are not aware of this. He may look detached, but he does not miss a thing! When Rupert does a job, he does it very well, and he takes great pride in his accomplishments. He truly is a self-made man, and he likes to rely on himself before seeking advice from others. He trusts himself more than he trusts anyone else, and he would rather do things himself than go for help. Perfection in every sense of the word is important to him, and he is very cautious in entering any type of relationship. Unlike most Virgoans, he is not very tidy (Mars in Aries is too busy to clean after himself!), but he does notice other people’s flaws easily. He is both critical and self-critical, but he tends to be harder on himself than on others, and he is too shy to voice his disappointment in people who had let him down. He is very sensitive to other people’s needs and willing to serve others, because he believes that helping others is his duty and a true sign of justice – and he believes in justice and fair play. He is able to remain above many of the petty things in life and come through crises with his hands clean. With Virgo’s precision and Mars in Aries’ animal-like senses and great coordination, no wonder that Rupert’s sport of choice is golf, which requires a bit of both.

Rupert’s Sun receives strong aspects from four “heavyweights” (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune). All of them together promise that he will have a long life and be blessed with excellent health – unless he ruins it with indulgent behaviour! Since Virgo is a Mercurial sign, he will always look younger than he is, and even as an old man he will preserve his youthful appearance and charm.

Sun square Jupiter makes him a person who sometimes tends to talk big and act little. Jupiter is a beneficiary, but in Rupert’s case it is in the sign of its “exile”, Gemini, and it afflicts his Sun. Rupert wants to be a true Virgo/Capricorn ambitious kind of guy, he wants to be on top, he thinks he deserves it, but often he is not willing to work hard for it. He must learn patience and overcome the tendencies to exaggerate and exercise poor judgement. He might also be good in finding excuses for his laziness, and even manipulating others to do his work instead of him. He may indulge a bit too much in food and drink, which will result in him putting on weight easily. Jupiter in Gemini confirms Rupert as someone who is very youthful, playful, rebellious, clever (but not wise), cunning, materialistic and earthly. His interests are wide-ranging and he enjoys exercises in logic and reason.

Sun trine Saturn makes Rupert an achievement oriented person. The fact that his Sun is in aspect with both Saturn and Uranus (which are in close conjunction in Sagittarius) adds an element of unpredictability to him. These two planets are exact opposites: Saturn is conservative, Uranus progressive; Saturn likes the status quo, Uranus enjoys disturbing it; Saturn is past, Uranus is future; Saturn is rock, Uranus is thunder; Saturn is stiff, Uranus extravagant; Saturn hates being shocked, while Uranus takes great pleasure in shocking others. Since both these planets aspect Rupert’s Sun together, he will often vacillate between these extremes, taking turns in being conservative and shocking people. This will mostly affect the aspects of his life represented by the sign of Sagittarius: his philosophical, religious and political views, his attitude towards education, etc. Saturn urges Rupert to be practical and orderly, to respect traditional authority figures and to be thankful and supportive of the laws and institutions which govern his life; but Uranus makes him join groups of people who have the tendency to think that all ideas, customs and traditions from the past are outmoded and irrelevant. Through his friends he might become attracted to radically new ideas, philosophies and religions. He will travel the world, explore various cultures, etc.

Sun trine Uranus makes him charitable, as he truly feels a bond between himself and humanity. It is likely that he will get involved with UNICEF or something like that, because he wants to contribute to social justice. Fair play and justice for all – that is Rupert’s ideal. He is known for being calm, cool and detached; indeed, he is a bit of a loner, but he does want to be a part of the social groups around him and feel like he belongs and makes a difference. Uranus makes him very intuitive and he often has flashes of brilliance; however, Saturn puts a damper on these flashes. Hence, Rupert will often suppress his own brilliant ideas and spend too much time dissecting them, instead of just acting on impulse. He should learn to trust his instincts more. Sun trine Uranus is also responsible for Rupert’s cracking sense of humour (alongside Mercury in Virgo trine Moon). These aspects somewhat lighten his rather serious nature and make him a lot more easygoing than he would otherwise be. His enthusiasm and laughter are truly infectious.

Sun trine Neptune makes him a very refined person, with a love of the arts and good taste. He is sensitive to others and much more compassionate than an average Virgo/Capricorn person. This aspect is also “to blame” for his artistic gifts – not just acting, but also music and drawing.

With Moon in Capricorn, Rupert tends to be reserved, cautious and remote when dealing with other people and events. His predilection for ambition and a drive to succeed serve to mask inner doubts and worries. He is rather shy and insecure about his abilities, but has a sense of dignity and pride, and will work hard on maintaining his professional reputation. He tends to be very hard on himself and often feels like a failure. He is willing to work hard for his success, and he prefers a long hard climb to the top. Rupert will never push situations, or step on another person’s back to get to the top – but he will get there. Don’t be fooled by his sleepy appearance – he was born to work. His earthiness, integrity, consideration for others and caring nature easily win other people. He is serious and shy, dutiful and patient, and very uncomfortable in those situations where spontaneous emotional reactions are expected from him. He is an achiever who prefers doing practical, worthwhile things that produce tangible results. For him, practical needs always win out over emotional considerations, and he often forgets that he too has the right to comfort, security and love. His love is long-enduring and when he makes an emotional commitment, he’s in it for the long haul.

People with Moon in Capricorn are sometimes described as cold, unemotional, secretive, stiff, domineering, even cruel, and they surely have difficulties in expressing their emotions. In fact, they prefer to suppress them, and show a cool and collected face in every situation. Moon is in the sign of its “exile”, which means that all good sides of this “light” (i.e. its maternal, caring, protective, overtly sensitive, compassionate nature) are somewhat suppressed/denied. He does not open up easily, if at all, and he does not share his most intimate thoughts with anyone. Rupert is not a show-off or attention seeker; his day job brings him a lot of exposure, but he does not enjoy that. He likes to have a small circle of close friends and family around him, and he is very restrictive when it comes to letting new people inside the circle.

As a rule, displaying affection is very difficult for any Virgo/Capricorn person. They often feel like they are not worth being loved, so they have difficulties in reciprocating other people’s loving feelings. On the other hand, when Rupert finds someone he can trust, he is loyal beyond the call of duty, and can be truly overbearing in relationships. He also tends to hang on to people, places and things, and has difficulty in letting go. Rupert likes to hide behind a role, and he often finds it easier to act someone else’s emotions than to deal with his own. He does not like to face the cold facts of life objectively, and has a predilection for self-deceiving, self-isolation and utopian thinking.

Moon trine Mercury in Virgo is probably the best aspect in Rupert’s chart. He has an alert mind and thinks fast on his feet, although he is able to hide this well. He possesses a good common sense, and when interested in something, he can be a good conversationalists. This aspect makes him a very funny bloke, able to crack others up with his wits and quips, and he surely enjoys comedies! With Moon sextile Pluto he adapts to change well and is not overly nostalgic. The common sense that these two aspects signify is very important for him when dealing with disappointments and bad luck; he is able to rationalise those, get back on his feet soon and recover. This is important because Virgo/Capricorn people are somewhat pessimistic, and when things get bad, they are prone to bouts of depression.

Moon conjunct Neptune makes him very impressionable and confirms his strong psychic tendencies. He daydreams a lot, and may have prophetic dreams, or well-developed sixth sense, and he might be true living radar. He is very idealistic, a true visionary and dreamer, but also rather moody, apt to hide his true feelings, wear masks and embrace different roles. He is very creative and extremely devoted to his ideals and to his loved ones. Rupert is an idealist who must believe in something beyond his normal everyday existence; a dreamer who likes to escape to a world of his own creation. He should learn to live for himself and not let his sense of responsibility dominate his life.

Rupert’s Venus is well-positioned in Cancer, making him romantic, caring, well-mannered, polite and lovable. People like him because of his non-aggressive, non-threatening manner. He needs emotional support himself and is willing to give it to others. He is very sensitive in his romantic life and, as such, very vulnerable to the actions of loved ones. He needs security in the domestic scene, and will most likely postpone getting married until he is completely sure that he has made a good choice. He wants to nourish and protect people he cares for. He prefers cosying up at home with the loved one to showing off in public with his squeeze. His faithful devotion is one of his greatest gifts, but he does not know how to demand his own rights and may also become too dependent on others.

However, this wonderful, caring and loving Venus is opposed to his cold and reserved Moon, so he vacillates between these extremes all the time. He wants to be romantic and passionate, but is often afraid to plunge into a new relationship; he wants to care about others, but he is afraid that they might use him; he wants to express his affections openly, but is afraid of getting hurt. Therefore, he puts a damper on his emotions and often feels unloved and incapable of having a good, mature relationship.

The aspect of Venus in Cancer square Mars in Aries has made our Rupert a sex symbol; and Venus trine Pluto confers his lofty, intense ability to love. Deep down inside he is romantic and passionate, only he rarely lets others see this side of his nature. Venus square Mars makes him an exceptional lover; he wants his advances to be answered immediately, wants his feelings reciprocated, expects too much from others, and is quite disappointed when things do not go his way! Once he finally meets the right person, he will be very affectionate and caring, devoted and honest… but only then. Moon trine Mercury indicates that he will eventually marry a clever, witty and creative person (possibly an artist or musician), and that they will have a big family.

Mars in Aries contributes to Rupert’s physical appearance: he is of medium height and quite athletic, has red hair and freckles. However, people with Aries and/or Mars rising are usually high-strung, choleric and hyperactive – quite unlike our “sleepy” and “laid-back” Rupert! Still, underneath his sleepy appearance, Rupert can be quite headstrong, energetic, independent, self-willed, driven, a true go-getter, someone who enjoys competition, likes to set his own goals, do his own stunts and impress others. When challenged by anyone for anything, he delights in the competitive process. He likes excitement, enjoys hanging out with his buddies, and likes all sorts of “male” activities: fast cars, sports, martial arts, pumping iron and being outdoors. He also likes to build and construct things, or repair cars or something like that.

Mars sextile Jupiter accentuates Rupert’s good health, physical stamina, and manual dexterity. It also gives him luck when it comes to his financial investments. However he should be careful not to assign his “friends” to handle his money, because they might lead him into financial ruin. Instead he should hire good lawyers and invest wisely, as he has got a good chance of increasing his fortune through careful investments. He is not a natural born gambler, and should not gamble.

With Mercury in its ruling sign Virgo, Rupert displays a tendency to study everything in detail. His desire for exactness and minute investigation is of practical importance since he wants to utilise his intellectual abilities for financial (and other) success. He likes to organise, classify and analyse things, and he may refine and revise everything he does until it is, in his mind, perfect. When filming, he does not mind repeating a scene over and over again, until he is sure that he has nailed it. He is attracted to practical, useful skills and good at any manual work. Mercury gives Rupert great stores of wisdom and confirms his common sense and the ability to memorise his lines easily. He is a very practical, analytical, critical person. Despite his “sleepy” appearance, his mind is active 24/7, noticing, dissecting and categorising stuff around him all the time. He likes to rely on his common sense and values honesty above all else. Mercury in Virgo makes him quite coy, especially when around strangers. He will rather keep silent than say something stupid. Nevertheless, when necessary, he is able to speak up and be an inspirational and convincing orator. Oh, and he can spend hours texting!

Mercury sextile Venus bestows a harmony between the mind and feelings. It also instils literary, artistic and musical talent into him, makes him good-looking and gives him a pleasant voice. This aspect also calms him down, and makes him a very pleasant, well-mannered, easy-going, always-smiling, diplomatic and friendly person. He is very charming and well-loved by everyone who knows him. He loves everything fair and just, and people find him a low-maintenance person, easy to collaborate with. He is certainly not a drama queen! This aspect confirms that Rupert has been able to earn a lot of money as an actor/performer/entertainer. On a more mundane level, it gives him a great fashion sense, and a nice and legible handwriting! This aspect gives Rupert lots of friends, especially female ones, of course many fans, and further accentuates his compassionate and charitable nature.
